Walks & Rambles 1

Status:Active, open to new members
Leader:
When: On Thursday mornings
2nd, 4th & 5th Thursday
Venue: Out And About

The group organises 2 or 3 walks each month, one of about 5 miles and one about 8 miles. When there’s a month with 5 Thursdays we have a longer day out, perhaps travelling further, with an 8 or 9 mile walk and a relaxed lunch. We walk in lots of different areas, e.g. in the Chess valley, out to the Chilterns, occasionally in London, locally etc etc.

We meet at the start of walks, either at a station or a parking area. When we drive we try to share cars with those who live near to each other. In the warmer months we bring picnic lunches on longer walks, in the winter we have lunch in pubs or cafes.

Shorter walks are generally finished by about 1pm so some of us go home, others stay to eat lunch together before travelling home.

Currently we can welcome a few more walkers, so if you would like to try us out do have a chat with one of us.

We send the details of each month's walks to members by email. We also organise and lead a weekend/short break for the group in the UK each year, and some of us go on a European holiday usually booked with and led by Ramblers Worldwide Holidays or another similar company.

NEWS: MONEY GIVEN TO THE WALKING GROUP

“The Walking Partnership” set up by Ramblers Worldwide Holidays have given us donations every year to date! Why ?? Some u3a members have been on river cruising, sightseeing or walking holidays with Ramblers Holidays. So ?? They nominated our walking group to receive £10 per person on UK holidays, £20 on European or £30 on long haul from Ramblers Worldwide Holidays. Why ?? The Walking Partnership gives money to local groups to help with organising walks, encouraging people to get out walking, providing equipment to help walkers etc. Ramblers Worldwide Holidays has given many millions of pounds to walking charities and conservation projects in Britain and the countries they visit. What did we do with it ?? Some of the above, we will tell you if you ask.

Any u3a member can nominate us. www.ramblersholidays.co.uk has details of their holidays & for more details about "The Walking Partnership" visit www.thewalkingpartnership.org.uk.
